Oriental Poppies, Grown From Seed

You can see there is a difference from the original Coral Reef on right- not come true from seed.

Thanks Michaella/Carol. Had a discussion with Simbad about growing the seeds and wondering if they will be the same as the parent plant. Well the one on the left isnt but I agree, it is nice, so Im not too worried.

Beautiful. I must be doing something wrong. I can't grow poppies from seed.

Hi Alex, I dont have luck if I scatter seeds but I collected these when they were ready and grew them in seed trays in the autumn, germinated well.

Hi Dawn,
I tried in trays as well....once in September and then again a month ago. They are not looking too good. I will have another go this autumn. It's my oldest son's favorite flower so I'm determined to have loads in my garden.

Good luck Alex, I can send you some of these seeds later in the year if you'd like to give them a try. I find shop bought seeds dont do half as well as swapped seed from friends.

Thanks, that would be nice. Yorkshire had asked me if I wanted some seeds a while ago....but I had already bought the seeds.

I've just made a note to myself ..... i'll contact you when the seeds are ready :)

Oh they are a lovely colour Dawn, I'm going to have another go now, put me off a bit when my first lot all came up bright orange, but have some seed you sent me last year so going to sow them and see what I get :-)
Just googled those clematis we've grown and they are good for growing into trees, don't mind part shade so thanks for suggesting that, I'll have them growing up every tree the amount I have, lol.

Not true colour but still nice I think.
Thanks for doing the research into the clematis Kathy, that is brilliant news. Like you, I'll have them up all the trees, lol - need to get them set out soon.
