Pandanus ultilis - Screw Pine, Madagascan Screw Pine

Pandanus ultilis - Screw Pine, Madagascan Screw Pine (danus ultilis - Screw Pine, Madagascan Screw Pine)

This is a beautiful specimen of a Screw Pine in Mission Bay, San Diego, CA. This tree, of course is not a pine...it's a tree which is native to the tropical islands of Madagascar and Mauritius. Photo taken a couple years ago.

Sixpence:

Yes, it looks similar to cordyline with the exception of the sharp, serrated leaves...and typically it usually has lots of prop-roots at the base. For some reason I don't see any prop-root on this tree.
