Is it perennial then - result!

yes it's perennial :-)), but it doesn't like wet feet in winter likes good free draining ground.

Free draining is easy for me - I have lots of raised beds as the soil is clay sadly.

Thanks Tetrarch.
Cinders - how old was yours? I may put this in a pot if it's tenderish....

Meanie, it was only a couple of years old, and I had it in a large shallow pot, with grit on the top. I had two the first year, and only one came up last year. This year nothing so far, and no sign of anything when I had a good poke around. I had it outdoors in the summer and gave it a little bit of shelter for the winter in my plastic greenhouse, but think it has gone.
