Sixpence:

What species of Erythrina (Coral tree) do you have?

Here in Southern California many species of Coral trees are grown and most become very large trees. Most species are blooming now.

If I recall its from Brazil Delonix.

Sixpence:

There's several species native to Brazil. There's Erythrina crista-galli, E. falcata -- cirsta-galli is the hardiest. I have photos of both of these trees posted on GoY, check them out if you have time. :>)

I m sure it was Erythrina cirsta galli as I recall now I ve seen it written as I put it one here before its only small at present about 1ft high thanks for reminding me of the name I shall write it on the photo.

Sixpence:

E. crist-galli is a nice very hardy, beautiful flowering tree. There's a large, old tree around the corner from where I live. I've posted pics in the past on GoY.

This tree should not be pruned until after it flowers in summer (for you). Here it blooms off-and-on throughout the year.

Thank you Delonix I shall make a note prune after flowering, it did nt flower at all last year just leaves.

23 Jan, 2011

Sixpence:

Great! Also, give your E. crista-galli as much sun and heat (above 80ºF/27ºC. if possible) the hotter the better for it to bloom.

Thanks for that information its very much appreciated Delonix, I shall do as you say.

Sixpence:

I'll take another photo of the Erythrina crista-galli around the corner form my house soon. It's still blooming with the 80ºF/27ºC or warmer weather we've been having.

24 Jan, 2011

Thank you Delonix I shall be looking forward to seeing you picture, I do recall it did say it grew up to 50 ft.

24 Jan, 2011

Sixpence:

It does grow tall...there's many other species which grow much taller and wider.

Here's a link to my Erythrina pics:
