Kalanchoe species

Kalanchoe species (Kalanchoe)

This Kalanchoe is blooming all over my yard now. Unfortunately, can't remember the species name. There's hundreds of species/varieties of Kalanchoe which are used in the landscape here. Photo taken Jan. 14, 2011 in my front yard.

Marguerite:

I originally got this plant as a tiny cutting from someones yard over 8 years ago. It's super easy to propagate and grow. This plant is under an 85ft/25m tall Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heteraphylla)...it prefers to have more sun.

Alexandramou:

I've gotten many of my plants/trees originally from cuttings. It's the cheapest and fast way to get a new plant...and in the case of Plumeria, it's the only way to get a true identical flower color (of the mother plant).

Are large Plumeria trees widely planted where you live?

I haven't see ANY on Corfu!!! I've been checking out e-bay, they have loads of seeds for Plumeria.

Alexandramou:

If possible, only buy Plumeria cuttings...with seeds you never know what color you're going to end up with...and they can take up to 4 or 5 years to bloom.

If you don't see Plumeria trees at your local nurseries...then it's probably too cold or wet in winter to grow there as a landscape tree.

Thanks for that...I have too many plants that I have to wait years to see flowers!!!

Alexandramou:

I always get my Plumerias from cuttings...I usually get them from friends or even stranger's trees. lol! (I ask though) Cutting-grown Plumerias will usually flower the same year planted.

Alexandramou:

My plant is different from the one you have...even though it's a Kalanchoe species/hybrid. I have several other Kalanchoe species that's blooming now...I'll have to get some pics. posted.
