These Pansies are inside the balcony, at the far end from the door. This photo I took on December 13th.

Lovely to see a bit of colour this time pansies seldom let you down.

That's very true, 6d! That's precisely why I buy them & at £3 a pack of 20 I consider them good value!

Yes they are wonderful value for how long they last

They are good value as they flower for more than 6 months, giving colour at a time of the year when it's most needed. They don't need much care & are hardy down to very low temps which would kill many other plants. I believe that Violas are even hardier.

Yes Violas are as I have grown these through the winter, they don't even droop with frost like the pansies and if grouped together very effective more so than pansies.

I've planted 3 of them together in each of the pots, underplanted with Crocuses. Last year they gave me a wonderful display!

I hope you have another this spring too.

I hope so, too! To that end I've taken the pots off the balcony railings & put them in a less exposed spot on the balcony. It will, I hope, stop the pots from freezing & possibly breaking. Although Pansies & Violas are perfectly hardy when growing in the ground I doubt they will like having their roots frozen.

There are Pansies planted in the flowerbed outside our flats & I take an occasional photo of them. In other flowerbeds around town the council has planted 1,000s of Pansies, Violas & Polyanthus. They make the most wonderful display in the spring!

Yes the council do that here too for spring, when spring comes you could take some photos for us to see will look forward to seeing their displays.

19 Dec, 2010

I'll certainly do that. Every year I take 100s of pictures of plants the council has put in all around town - at least the areas I frequent. There are other areas I've never even been to yet that may have flowerbeds as well.

When I put up my blog on Autumn Colour, the trees I photographed in Drake Close are just 2-3 mins walk from me but in 9 years it's the first time I've ever seen them in the autumn! It's an area I never visit. just because it's behind our block of flats & I never have occasion to go that way!

Yes I ve just been to visit your trees wonderful colours.

Thanks for visiting my Autumn Colour blog, 6d, glad you liked it. :-))

The photo you commented on, the collage, was of the trees in the grounds of a local school. The photos I commented on above are in a street called Drake's Close. I think I put in 3 photos of the trees in that Close in my blog.

I only saw the trees because I was returning home from accompanying my wife to work by a different route. I was taking photos of trees with colourful leaves & as I got near my place I noticed these lovely colours poking above the roofs of some houses. Curious, I went to have a look! I was very surprised to see these trees in their autumn colours! I had on a rare occasion been around there but it must have been during times when they were in leaf but never before in the autumn.

You got a lovely set of pictures from them so well worth the journey, it s suprising whats on our door steps and we don't notice unless we venture.
