Are those some "babies" from it too?

Yes Meanie, I accidentally knocked them off, so I planted in orchid compost, with just a little multi purpose and they are getting along fine, in fact it looks like there is a bud in the centre of one.

I've never tried it myself, but it's a technique that is recommended for use with that canes that have stopped growing, so it should (and clearly does) work with canes that still have growth left in them.

Yes it certainly seems to work. I can't bear to throw bits away, so I always try to get things to grow.

This is quite beautiful Sylvia, I`m afraid I`m hopeless with house plants.

Well I must be lucky, as I dont have a problem with these. They just perform without much effort on my part.

Just came across this Cinders..what a beauty and the colour is luscious...ALMOST makes me want to grow orchids..but no space indoors or in greenhouse! Do they have a perfume or are they like roses, some do, some dont?

Hi Tetra. This particular one is not scented, but the flowers last for two or three months so they are excellent value. I have just bought one that is highly scented, not an overpowering scent, but delicate. Picture on my photos (red one). But I suppose they are a bit like roses in that some are scented and some not.

what a beauty! i take it they like window sills - a cool window? with no direct sun?

28 Jan, 2011

Yes thats right. I am lucky that I have large windowsills. I usually put them upstairs in a cooler window when they finish flowering. No direct sun.

thats helpful, thank-you, most of our windowsills were frustratingly narrow in this house but we have had some windows replaced and now there are better window sills - just right for plants! thank you.
