Now I'm wondering if I could fit one of those into the conservatory!

lol......I'm after "Egret orchid". I fell in love with it when you posted it. I found out you can buy them as bulbs. Looking into it. ;o)

Go for it!
Grow them in small pots in a shady area, and most important, keep moist!
Should be a challenge for you in Corfu!

Do you grow this outdoors?

24 Oct, 2010

Outdoor yes, but in a pot. That way I was able to find the site where it was happiest.

Good idea. I just moved both of my Bleeding hearts to a kind of sheltered area. The pink one I have has started droping its leaves. How are yours in the winter?

24 Oct, 2010

Indoors, with lots of lovely green leaves!!

24 Oct, 2010

ooooook...I'm moving one of mine indoors then and see what happens. There will be no heat but better than outdoors. I read that it needs a cold period to set blooms.
I've had bleeding hearts before but I thought they were dead....probably not. Oh well, live and learn.

Incredible colour

Thanks Yorkshire.

How cold can it get in Corfu?

25 Oct, 2010

It goes down to maybe 12 or 13 during the night. It may even go down to one digits sometimes, rare.
I'm going to follow and record the weather here this year.
Meanie....I had such a fright last night. We had a crazy storm with crazy winds....my husband came home from the shop and told me that my plant was thrown on the floor. You know which plant I'm talking about. I had nightmares that I had to drop out of the race. I can't believe my luck not even a TWIG broke....and it's planted in a clay pot. Talking about luck. :o)))

Jeez - my heart bleeds for you! Twelve degrees! How do you survive!!!!
Good that the Polygala wasn't hurt though, I'd hate to win ny default.

26 Oct, 2010

Yes, I would hate for you to win too. My Polygala still looks good.
We had 0 degrees one year.....that was not too good.
Don't forget though I use to live in NY, that means snow and cold most of the winter.

26 Oct, 2010

Never been to NY, although I once had to go to Chicago on a job in the middle of winter - I changed my return flight, did the job and came straight home!

26 Oct, 2010

So I take it you really don't like the cold. Ditto. Even though it's hot here it gets really really damp during the winter months. I have my heat on all the time and thinking about buying a wood burner for when we have power cuts and such. I have really huge windows that make my house really warm with no heat on....but oh my it is scorching in the summer. (need to do something about that soon)
Never been to Chicago but that's the windy city.

Hate the cold Alexandra - All the bones that I broke when I was young and reckless remind me of the abuse when it's cold!

26 Oct, 2010

Maybe you should make your move.....sun, beach, tropical breeze.

26 Oct, 2010

Her ladyship wouldn't go! To be fair, I did my roaming when I was younger, but I'd love to move out to the Far East.

26 Oct, 2010

Like where? Doesn't your OH want to move?

26 Oct, 2010

I loved my time in Malaysia, especially Penang.
No way would she go out there - she has a shellfish allergy which would make life sooo difficult! My other option would be New Zealand. But that's even further!

26 Oct, 2010

Yeah but would be easier on you OH. Lots of lamb there. ;o)
My time for traveling has come to a stand still, now I have to wait until all the kids are older.

26 Oct, 2010

I have to wait until February to get my egret orchid. Oh boy more waiting. It seems like I'm always waiting for something.

26 Oct, 2010

She's the one with the issue over distance! I keep telling her that the local lamb and white wine would make moussaka even better, but no go!

26 Oct, 2010

Well then it looks like you're stuck in the cold damp weather. But life changes sometimes when you least expect it...

If the pound wasn't so crap against the Euro, she might consider Italy, or the Canaries.

26 Oct, 2010

You never know things might change, even the dollar is crap at the moment. 70$ for 100euros. The Canaries sound good.

26 Oct, 2010

Not at one pound for 1.14 euros!

26 Oct, 2010

Ha down here is Essex the euro is only offering 1.08 to the £ Meanie......Alex thats a Fabulous colour........

26 Oct, 2010

We need the Euro to crash Milky!
We seem to have forgotten about the lovely Plumbago!

Alexandramou:

Great shot of the Cape Plumbago! This plant grows wild here everywhere... and it's always in bloom.

27 Oct, 2010

Thanks Delonix1, it grows here in peoples gardens.

27 Oct, 2010

Thanks Milky. Well, since the euro came to town our lives are getting harder and harder.
