My favourite tree! What a beautiful specimen ... Maleny is such a beautiful part of Oz too. When I lived in Brisbane the Jacarandas would put on such fabulous displays around the older inner city suburbs ... I was lucky enough to live in one of those suburbs and the major streets were lined with these beauties.

I received some seed for Jacaranda from a friend and planted them during the heat of this summer ....I'm in Canada, so I have just dug up the seedlings and they are now ensconced in fresh compost in groupings of six in 6 inch pots... I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they make it...but it will be a long winter and who knows what could happen between now and then... This is a lovely pic of a beautiful tree, M.

Lori...it will be interesting to see if you have success with the Jacaranda...I expect getting it through the winter will be the biggest challenge. They are a beautiful tree. Good luck.

So right, Whistonlass. Thank you...I hope to succeed.

Tetrarch:

Great photo! This tree is almost as big as the one in my front yard.

I have never ever seen one of these in real life, and not many in photos. It is breathtaking! Thanks! :))

I actually made the driver stop so I could take this. Great to share with people who love them like me. If EVER you get the chance to see one Karen do, the blossom is a heavenly indescribable lavender blue...

Just love them....

If there are trees in heaven, this is a hint of what they must be like!

2 Oct, 2010

If there arent, Im not leaving!!

2 Oct, 2010

lol!

Tetrarch:

I can't comprehend living in a city where this tree is not planted by the thousands or millions. All my life I've only lived where they are grown widely as yard, median or street trees. I guess I'm very lucky! : >)

Ok when my time comes, I'll stamp my feet, have a tantrum and insist on being a ghost in California!!

2 Oct, 2010

Tetrarch:

Good idea! LOL! : > )

There's a lot of Jacarandas in Hawai'i also -- where I'm from originally.

Even better!

In Grafton in northern NSW they have a jacaranda festival once a year when the trees start to bloom, and they elect a Jacaranda Queen and have a banquet and other stuff. It's quite a famous Aussie festival. In Grafton, the streets are lined with Jacas - so Delonix, you're not alone over there :o)

I think even one Jacaranda tree is a feast for my eyes....can't even imagine what it must be like to see a whole street lined with them...must be the most gorgeous sight. A festival to celebrate and a Queen too...sounds like great fun, Pip.

Pip_c:

I'm not sure why we don't have a Jacaranda festival here...we have the Lemon Festival, the Avocado Festival and many, many orchids festivals and shows here.

San Diego (and many other California cities) is referred to as the blue/purple city when tourist come to town in Spring. Because from a plane the whole city looks blue/purple.

It's also pretty funny listening to tourist call Jacarandas the blue or purple flowering tree. : > )

Whistonlass:

The main boulevard which I live off...has more than 8 miles/ 13km of Jacarandas trees lining the streets and planted in the medians...of course, along with Queen and King palms.

3 Oct, 2010

Wow...what a sight that must be, Delon.

3 Oct, 2010

Whistonlass:

Yes, it's quite a sight! Many people who live here just take the Jacaranda trees for granted because they're so common.

3 Oct, 2010

Unbelievable! How wonderful if they would grow here ....sigh...:-))

You and me both Bornagain, be first in the queue!

7 Oct, 2010

When I was at the GC today they had Christmas lights out....many were the blue colour of this gorgeous tree. Maybe we could get a few hundred strands of those tiny blue LED lights and fake it with a largish tree....whata you say guys?

Maybe not as good as the real thing....but I think that's pretty imaginative of me at 11.45pm Thursday night! lol

7 Oct, 2010

Whistonlass:

Sounds like a very creative idea! : > )

8 Oct, 2010

Very creative for that time of night J!! However, might be cheaper to have a blow up of the picture and paste it to your new fence!!

8 Oct, 2010

Tetra...you are good...trying to save me money (hehe maybe get a terrace yet eh?)

8 Oct, 2010

Im sure you wont be happy with a picture of a terrace tho!! Trouble with a Jac when it blooms there arent any leaves, so you would need mill-i-ons of blue bulbs!! Just think of the lecie bills!

Still it IS a thought for our cherry tree at christmas!

8 Oct, 2010

Stunning tree ...

13 Oct, 2010

I've never seen this tree before. It is fabulous!

13 Oct, 2010

I just thought as it was so chilly and dark at 6am in the morning, I would dust this off and indulge myself in a heavenly memory...

18 Oct, 2010

I like your style, Tetra :) and a beautiful sight it is. I'm looking forward to hearing of Lori's progress at successfully using a grouping of these trees for bonsai.

18 Oct, 2010

sure hope I have some success.

23 Oct, 2010

let us know how it goes Lori. Never bonsai-d anything so will be interesting to follow your progress.

23 Oct, 2010

Yep! first time for everything. they are looking ok...but I have to keep them in as much light as I can ...will it be possible to sell a house with every window sill covered in Jacarandas??? lol...
