Nice to see someone else who has this underrated plant - did you grow it from seed?

13 Aug, 2010

That's pretty...
Has your plant climbed very high ?

Its lovely......a plant I've been meaning to try.........added to the ever growing list...lol

Yes, I love this too. Is it tender?

13 Aug, 2010

It is tender Karen, although in milder winters I have overwintered them in the garage. However, as they're so easy to grow from seed I don't mess about any more.
The seeds are readily available, although I always have far more success with the seed that I save (the bought ones come with the outer husk removed which must harm them somehow - I don't understand).

Oh, good advice then Meanie, thanks! I have seen them on the seed racks at the GC, but if they are tender then you're growing them as annuals and I don't think I'll bother. Thanks anyway.....karen :)

That is so unusual and attractive, another first for me;0)

thanks :-)
Karen I overwintered this from last year, just kept it in a pot in the GH, this one is now about 4ft high, I'll try and keep it again this winter, but as M said it's easy to grow from seed.

Out of interest, did you cut it back at all?

14 Aug, 2010

no I didn't M, some of the growth died back, but it grew from the root again :-) I was very surprised it came back, I just gave it a try to see what happened

I'm tempted to bring it into the conservatory this year. I've only provided support up to two feet this time (which resulted in a nice tumbling effect and has stopped it looking a little bare at low levels as the season progresses), so it's a nice compact specimen.

might be worth a try:-)

Thanks for the info! :))

Would you be tempted if I sent you some seeds (I'm getting a little evangelical about this now)?

15 Aug, 2010

Mmmmm......I guess I could give it a try and find a space for it next year! Kind of you to offer seeds.....will send address in pm. Thanks!
