Corymbia ficifolia - Red Flowering Gum and Caryota uren - Fishtail Palms (Corymbia ficifolia - Red Flowering Gum and Caryota uren - Fishtail Palms)

These were young Fishtail palms to replace the large trees which were blooming. Fishtail Palms are monocarpic -- which means they die after flowering. The flowering process takes from 5 - 8 years. Photo taken at Quail Botanical Garden, Encinitas (San Diego County) on August 3, 2010.

Did you mean that the trees bloom at 5-8 years old, or that the bloom cycle takes 5-8 years, from bud formation to ripe fruit?

Tugbrethil:

The from the beginning of flowering until the death of the tree is from 5 - 8+ years.
