http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantqrs/scadoxkath.htm has information on your plant Brian. The juice was used on poisoned arrows so maybe need handling with care. I think you were a bit impatient expecting growth in only a few weeks.
http://www.vanmeuwen.com/flowers/flower-bulbs/other-flower-bulbs/scadoxus-multiflorus/61574VM?gclid=CLqftsP-kaYCFcoe4QodySSYYw has more detailed planting instructions. Good luck with your project and do keep us updated on the results.

did you have any luck with the scadoxus fireball lily? I planted some when they arrived (end of January) and nothing is sprouting! ( March) Any tips from your experience appreciated

I am intrigued too Brian. What happened next.

the blue mould kept coming even if i watered a small bit .just a bad batch .however do not let bulbs get below 10 c as they will just rot in the winter as i found out .they need lots of heat to sprout.but when planting in a pot you need to give it lots of tlc to get started .dont over water as you get impatient .damp is enough to start it .i eventually lost all mine bar 2 which i have in the greenhouse at the moment.just gave them alittle water to start them last week as the weather is starting to heat up.

They'll need about 2 months in soil, don't overwater just keep these moist and be patient. Once the bulb sprouts, it'll magically grow flower stem and bloom within 2 weeks. Bloom lasts for about a week to two.

Thank you for updating this Question. Often we do not hear what happens.

Hi...sorry for not updating ....I realise that these bulbs need a minimum of 12 c or else they will rot....growing below this in a greenhouse jan to April will only cause the bulb to go soft and rot ...wait for temp to increase and then you will be fine ...they do not over winter in pots as they will rot ...store bulbs in a brown paper bag somewhere in your house with temp 12 or pref above.
Thanks
