Cardiocrinum Giganticum (Giant Himalayan Lily) . I now have at least 57 of these all offspring fron 2 I purchased some time ago from Madrona Nursery. A high impact plant and a great talking point with visitors to the garden. They are monocarpic(flower once when mature then die ) leaving offspring to carry on the good work ! These regal plants stand proudly and at least 10ft tall along the pathways and in the borders. I have built up quite a stock of these as they only tend to flower at maturity which takes roughly about 4 to 5 years so patience and a large stock is required to ensure that at least one or two , sometimes more are in flower each year ! They are magnificent with huge trumpet flowers glistening white and silver peal in the dappled sunlight with claret throat and gentle scent !

I know what you mean about patience. I am hoping mine will flower again this year. I saw a sign of life today. I envy you such a large collection. I started with two but the increase in numbers quite quickly.

I bought my original plant at a beautiful garden on the west coast of Scotland.
That plant took a few years to flower, I tried to increase my plants with the seeds but that didn't work. The original plant had lots of small bulbs that I planted. I cannot remember how many, about four I think. I have had good foliage since then and I noticed a strong bud has appeared, so I was hopping I might have a flower this year. Fingers crossed. I'll put it on the site. Look out for the photograph.

I have just one bud at the moment, but it looks strong. We had an extra helping of snow last week, but the garden is beginning to recover.
