Can't believe I have driven miles to go on "snowdrop walks", then find the best show on my doorstep in the park, just by venturing off the tarmaced footpaths!
Glad you have enjoyed them, too. :-)

Our town park is a link in a county-wide wlking/cycling route. This area, less visited, is in the grounds of a former private estate dating back to at least the 17th century. The "Big House", now in perilous danger of collapse, is a "no go" area, and so the snowdrops have been able to spread naturally. This was the closest I could get. Across a small river ("burn" as we call it), there was a steep embankemt totally covered with them, looking like real snow among the conifers. :-)

What a shame that the house has fallen into ruin. The trouble is that they cost such a lot to maintain. Our last house was a grade 2 building and when we wanted to do anything we had to apply to the council. We managed to do some restoration work on it but it's costly. If only the council would bend a bit and allow you to extend on these old properties making extra house room, providing you kept the actual old building looking as it was on the outside. The snowdrops have been wonderful this year and they seem to have lasted a long time although are beginning to go brown now. I suppose I'd better dig some and split what little I have up to replant in other areas.
