Bob/Jane: As regards bluebells - when are they likely to start coming through, I think they normally flower in April, its just that I set 100 last year, in the green, under my trees, and there's no sign of them yet.

Our bluebells are showing about 2 inch es of leaf right now Dawn...but they have been established here for years.Keep watching for yours and good luck !

Yes, Ray the crocuses are up early, we are inundated with snowdrops and our bluebells are about the same as yours, but the daffodils are lagging behind a bit they are only about 4 ins. tall and I think they are going to be short stemmed this year. I think it will be unlikely that the cultivated ones will be in bloom before 1st. March.

Dawn, the bluebells will probably be in their glory in May.

Agree..ours are sending their beautiful scent out early May...wonderful !

Thanks Bob/Jane: It looks like I'm probably just being impatient. I'll check them each day now, I will live in hope and look forward to the scent in May.

not a crocus in sight up here

no crocus here yet either and the daffs are hardly showing ( but they have just been covered in snow again!) the Hellebores are budding but looking at my snowdrops today there seem to be some blind ones, usually each clump is full of flower do you think its still early for them not all the flowers are open yet or is it the weather, I do split up the clumps when they get too big

No it's not early Pam, they may have some unwanted visitors, millipedes, they are devils for going for the flowers buds before they develop.

Hi Dawn, Millipedes eat out any buds in the winter months, they attack our snowdrops, crocuses, cyclamen and others, as with all insects, killing the pest by hand is the best method of control.

Only birds will have them Pam, it's like all pests if their is lots of food there they will breed. I have known them set up home in Cyclamen, it can seem quite healthy and all of a sudden the young ones will devour it.
