Pam - do you find the blooms on the orange-flowered witch hazels show up from a distance or do you have to get close to notice them?

This one I have to get close to Andrew. The flowers seem very small, they look better in this photo than in the real. I think the sun caught it just right. But my new one Aphrodite, not yet planted does seem to shine.

I've always thought the orange-flowered ones would need a light background to show up well - maybe a variegated pittosporum or glaucous blue conifer. That's why I prefer the yellow-flowered ones

You may be right there Andrew. I think Aphrodite will need centre stage, the perfume of it filled the car on the way home. I did have the choice of a lovely yellow one.

Thats true Mageth, maybe underplant with something else that will draw your attention to it !. Or, a pair of red wellies.
