Owl box ready to put into tree

Owl box ready to put into tree

I made the box as a Barn Owl box but we think that we have Tawny Owls in the area. They have smaller tube-like boxes, but they might still give it a go

Hi Hameryllis, we've a few ordinary bird boxes up (with tiny holes) & thought of an owl box but were apprehensive about the squirrels nicking any eggs as the hole would be so big. We've lots of owls hooting around us here at night & it would be nice to see what kind they were.

That is one of the problems with having a nest box with such a large opening, cottage, but I think a sqirrel wouldn't want to mess with a Tawny. They vicious when protecting thier nest.If you hear hooting, apart from Janey and Terratoonie, then its Tawny Owls. They also make a warbling noise,we heard this the other night.

Hoot.... it wasn't me..honestly... hoot...

She who must be obeyed and I bought two nest boxes from our local Aldi store today because they came with cameras. They were only £39.99 each, less than half what you would expect to pay for the cameras alone.
I will install one camera in the owl box and the otther one a few feet away to see if there is any activity.
