this was on a wild dog rose in the grounds of Goodrich Castle in Monmouthshire autumn last year but what is it?

time to consult google, I've never heard of a dodder! Whatever it is it's very pretty and didn't appear to be doing any harm to its host. Thanks, I'll do a search.
