Know this shrub very well - gets out of hand over here very quickly and can take over. You are right about the colour though - you can't tell from a photo just how brilliant the red is.

Yes, I've seen how wild it can grow...this plant was very small last year. It spreads very quickly...however, it is a very beautiful shrub. I've never had one myself...however, I think I may ask my neighbor for a cutting.

I've always read it only grows to 6 feet / 2 meters...however, I've seen plants more than
10 feet / 3.1 meters tall here.

There are lavender and deep mauve ones too, spring rather than fall blooming.

I have the lavender or hot pink species (Odontonema callistachyum). I've posted a photo last winter. My plant looks like it's developing the flower spikes now...which will probably bloom by Thanksgiving or Christmas.
