~I just bought one yesterday at Malvern from Hardy's plants~the advice I was given is to chop it back hard the week the Chelsea flower show is on so that it branches out!

I don't really do anything apart from seperate them every couple years, as they do form quite large clumps in time! I like to leave the seed heads on over winter. They look smashing when frosted ( just like your profile pic Morgana. I assume that's frost on a shrub leaf???.... or is it a Rowan???)
