The pumpkin vines

Pumpkin vines as at 17/08/09 There are two pumpkins growing nicely, the others, well I shall have to wait and see if they have been pollinated????? The suspense is too much! Found another two dying off today. The bee's are too interested everything else in the garden by the looks of things, and my hand pollinating just isn't doing the trick.

Well to say they are ment to take over the garden, they have been very well behaved so far, I have just cut it back a little bit where I have got new side vines growing. Believe it or not I had eight pumpkins planted here to begin with, yes being a novice gardener I disabayed the distance between plants rule because I convinced myself that I'd be selective once the flowering started, and didn't do as everything seemed to be growing fine and I'm not after a monster pumpkin. After the slug feast I ended up with four main plants, as seen in this photo. The leaves have grown a bit bigger since this picture, and I now have three definate pollinated pumpkins which are growing well, and two others that I'm 95% sure are pollinated and I'm almost sure they will start to grow rapidly soon. I just wish the weather would brighten up a bit. Anyway, It seems that my little pumpkins are happy at the moment. I will post photos if they turn out well by harvest time.
