This is growing along the wall at the side of my house near the gate.

Lots of cover for the birds in there!! I have a couple of walls covered in ivy as well and the wrens have many nests in there.

Would it do well on a wire fence? Looks gorgeous!!

I don't think it would grow up a wire fence because it does not twine around things it has little suckers, I could be wrong i'm not that good at gardening.

I doubt if ivy would "do" on a wire fence unless you fixed some wooden trellis against it. The really do need walls to stick to and adore any faulty brickwork or roughcast surfaces they can adhere to.
Mine are definitely NOT on my house walls. Once upon a time...lol..one of my ivies sneaked along a boundary wall and over the bathroom wing...and up under the tiles etc. Every time you opened the bathroom window - some tendrils would climb in within an hour or two...like triffids! I vowed that if you sat there long enough (!) - the dratted stuff would strangle you! There is a huge debate as to whether or not ivy damages buildings and I have to say that if they are properly controlled they don't..but you have to be eternally vigilant. ..and I wouldn't risk it again.

Yes, that's what i was wondering about! I've also got some Russian Vine cuttings from the wall of my old garden, Might just put it on a trellis to hide the back of my shed! Ta muchly! :~))

AAAGH!! Great stuff Russian vine......but it can actually break through cement!
Our old summer house had a russian vine all over it. We removed the vine - renovated the building - must have left a bit somewhere inside - and it appeared out through the solid (we thought!) cement roof this spring ...looks nice though! Still don't know where the roots are!
If well tied down though it makes a great feature. My mother used to have an arch of it and she used to go out - almost daily and tie down all the long whips ...what a gorgeous feature it made - a real froth of creamy flower all over it. Wish I had a pic of it now.

Sounds Heavenly! An arch over the gate (which is really ugly) would be nice!

The best thing about the Goldenheart is i keep triming it back then it keeps its golden leaves longer

Sounds good, swanky! They have it at my work, I'll ask for a cutting & see what happens!
