Rain stopped play! or what a difference a Month makes!

March was so warm and sunny that everyone was able to get out and about in their gardens and enjoy:

Then! because of all the dry weather we had had over the past 12 months the water companies said we shall have a hosepipe ban starting from the 5th April. Yay!! that always does the job, rain rain rain and nothing else but rain since. Next we shall be flooded out! I remember in 1976 the same thing happened we were threatened with a hosepipe ban, Prince Charles was going to do a rain dance and lo and behold after he had done one, it rained and it rained and it rained. Trent burst its banks and we were cut off from the outside world unless we did a huge detour around. lol.

This is April and since the ban we have had nothing but cold winds, frost, rain, hailstones, more rain and even more rain, mixed in with a little thunder too. This mornings drenched garden:

I know we needed the rain but enough is enough, the garden does not need any more watering, it is saturated to the point of standing in puddles inches deep in places. April showers more like April deluges. lol. I want to get out there and plant some seeds in my veggie plot, but it is that darned cold I am sat at my computer trying to cheer myself up by looking at sunnier pictures and hoping that the sun will shine SOON – lol Never Happy I hear you say!! Hope some of you are getting some sunshine, if you are blow hard and send it this way please. lol :o)

Your garden looks lovely Olive but I know what you mean. Rain, rain ,rain since the hosepipe ban and not much chance of getting out there at the minute. Was March this years summer? :O(

Thanks - Hopefully not Annella I am so looking forward to getting the sunshine back. It is so cold here too. I do not like it too hot but my fingers and toes are so cold just a little warmer would do me - I do not want for too much! lol

It's cold here too, especially when the breeze pics up

With all the talk of drought, I went out and purchased extra water butts. I now have 4 all full to the point of bursting! Please, can we have some proper spring like weather???
I've spent the last two weeks throughly spring cleaning the house, in readiness for the time I shall spend in the garden and ignore the inside. Now the weather seems to have gone backwards lol!
On top of that, I've now discovered that the Bluebells we inherited with the garden are actually Spanish and will need digging out, grrrr! Trouble is the ground is soaking wet and they are also growing through other plants already established.
I need some gardening weather sooner rather than later. Sorry, moaning over with now.

Olive I had to laugh, I' ve done a blog on the same subject, sitting here armchair gardening whilst looking out the window, all caught up with the housework and right fedup with myself as well....

Hi there Annella, Waddy and Lincslass, it is good not to feel all on ones own lol. think we are all feeling the cold and getting bored with not being able to get our itchy fingers in the soil. I am trying hard to amuse myself with other things, trouble is the purse could get lighter when it is like this I keep wanting to spend money looking on line for things. lol.
Waddy I nearly bought another water butt but didn't glad I left it. Someone once told me my bluebells were the Spanish variety but the bulbs were all out of the wood so I presume they were wrong. How on earth do you tell if they are spanish or english lol. I have no idea.
Lincslass funny how we are all feeling this bad weather so much, we are a funny bunch only happy when we are out there in the muck doing our thing in the garden.

Your garden still looks magnificent despite the heavy rain Oliveoil. Just think rain is life. Sunny spells here at the moment.

Thank you Costas - yes I would normally think rain is life but we have had nothing but rain for two weeks now. Well it seems like that. lol I know it will change eventually, just wish it was sooner rather than later. lol.

Know the feeling only too well Olive, I bought a small greenhouse to grow some seeds but its now overflowing with plants ready to go in the garden when we have any decent weather, so it back to growing the seeds on the windowsills.lol.

You have a lovely garden and it looks very well kept. Am jealous!

Thank you everyone, good to know lots of others are getting tired of waiting for some sun to shine.
Poor kids Lincs, they will have had wet playtime and that is terrible for them, they do not get chance to run their energy off when they are shut up in the classroom.
Thank you Pansypotter soon be summer - hopefully.
I have tomatoes on my kitchen window Stroller and I am having to turn them every morning and afternoon, they are growing so fast.
Thank you Kildermorie it is a nice garden but much nicer when the sun shines and I can get out there and play in it. lol.

Your garden still looks lovely to me Barbara and after all this rain we've had, how come there is still a hose pipe ban!

21 Apr, 2012

All I can say Rose is we do not need a hosepipe anymore, lol. we were flooded out in the garden today, this morning it was a downpour early on and the garden was a lake up to the seating area, it had drained away by lunchtime but very very wet, you walk on the path and the water squelches up under your feet. We did manage to get our first cricket match played though, the ground was reasonably dry and where it is the rain went all the way around it. Some very bad rain though all around us. Very very wet tonight. Trent is very high too.

garden looks great barbara even though lots of rain, looks so fresh :o)))

22 Apr, 2012

Thanks Sanbaz it does but it is really really wet, squelching mud coming up everytime you walk anywhere. Hope you are feeling better.

22 Apr, 2012

Do you have heavy soil , then Barbara , with it flooding like this? I also heard on the forecast that there's more to come. I'm panicking now as I want to finish my new area for wild flowers on the allotment and the seeds have to really be sown by the end of April, but there are still lots of weeds to dig out and its too wet at the moment. There's never a happy medium , is there!

23 Apr, 2012

We are fairly heavy clay here Rose, it is a pain not being able to get on the allotment garden, hope it soon fairs up for you. We have got some sunshine this morning but it is still very chilly - hopefully though it will keep shining today and that will help to dry it all up a little.

24 Apr, 2012

We're very lucky Barbara , having light sandy soil as it drains well. the only thing is, it has to be manured every year. Its pouring today and I don't know when its going to get better, but if you see my blog will see that I got my seeds in at last. I don't envy you having clay soil.

25 Apr, 2012

It has some good points Rose, like retaining moisture so better off in the hot sunshine as long as we get a little watering occasionally. We have now got sun trying to break through the clouds but it has rained none stop all day long. sick of seeing it now, but not worried now about the hosepipe ban. lol. Will catch up tomorrow on blogs etc. been out this morning waiting for a delivery for my daughter so not been on here much today.
