We are getting WET WET WET at last!

I have just been making Grannyb’s Apple Cake and it is in the oven baking so decided to show you what is happening outside, it is RAINING! Now I know some of you are sick and tired of the wet stuff but this is the most rain we have had in our part of the world for months and months and months. So that is why I am excited about it (silly moo I am).

!

I have just had a peek at the cake and it looks to be doing nicely so I will have a piece for you all with a cuppa shortly and let you know what it was like. It looks yummy, but as they say ‘the proof of the pudding is in the tasting’ or should that be eating lol and I am so looking forward to tasting it/eating it. lol.

It is raining nice and steady without any wind slight breeze from the north but I am sure it will do so much good, the ground is so dry in my garden. We are forecast it for most of the day so I will go and make some more cakes – hope you enjoy whatever weather is being dished out to you all today. Best wishes – Oliveoil (Barbara)

Your garden looks lovely in spite of the lack of rain. Mine is so wet now the roses are being ruined,

Yes it does still look nice Drc726 but it has mostly gone to seed to preserve itself, the plants flowered and died off as they do. This is the most rain we have had since end of February, it has rained odd 1/2hours and we did get one Saturday when it rained for a short time and our cricket was put off but this time it is raining steadily and is doing lots of good for what is left flowering in the garden. The trees in the wood and alongside the roads are turning yellow already around us, not a good sign for them. Think they will lose there leaves early this year. That is always hard for me because it makes the winter months seem to drag on for longer when the leaves go from the branches so early. I like the trees to stay green until November, some of the oaks will which will keep a little colour in the wood. Have you had bad weather for most of the summer I know some places have, I see you're in Sussex and I know that area has had lots of water.

Thank you Nana_d sorry it has spoiled your roses though. You have had a lot of rain we have only had this today and a couple of showers before that since February. Garden has been dying for a drink for weeks. Everyone else seems to have had rain but not us here in N.Lincolnshire. I don't think I shall have to water again for a long time. Yay!!!!!

I took today off as I have to work Bank holiday Monday with the idea of spending time in the garden.

It has rained all day here in Northampton but I did manage to get a few bits done so my day was not wasted.

Michaela - It has really made everything look so clean and bright and it is still coming down.

Containerch have you been short of rain too this summer, think there is just a small bit running up the country which has been left without water, every one else seems to have had some, my daughter up in Carnoustie has been swamped with water.

Michaella and I are very pleased we are getting rain can you tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:o))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

It is so shiny and clean now Lulu. :o)

You have to move to the lincs/rutland border Olive, we are having a very wet day once a week, it started as soon as they announced the drought, lol.
Had planned a day out to Wrest Park but decided to pop over to Peterboro to see Harry Potter instead, Michaella is definitely getting to garden in the rain, we had to run to the car, lol.
Your garden looks absolutely lovely Olive, enjoy your cake........

It is only a small square bed Oliveoil and I am putting it to perennial's so it can then see to it self but I had to clear all the creeping Buttercup first,I have just been to Morrison's and bought a small bag of Daffodil bulb's so I will put them in first and that should be that bed sorted:-)

Just try to keep it down there...I really do not want any more for a while! :))

26 Aug, 2011

Planting my 3 plants just now was like putting a knife through butter.. the soil was so soft :))) Sorry everyone else who do not need more rain :((

26 Aug, 2011

lol Karen...will do!

26 Aug, 2011

...and get your weeds out while you have damp soil....I have had no trouble weeding at all this year! :))

26 Aug, 2011

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, it is still raining and to be honest it is quite a chilly evening now. Think though because I have been sat down a lot today is one of the reasons I feel the chill, if you move about you do not feel quite as cold as when sat still. Will get off my butt and go and wash some pots that should warm me up. lol.

Pleased you've had some decent rainfall at long last, Barbara, and your garden is looking so well on it! ... How lovely to be surrounded by so many mature trees ... :o)))

26 Aug, 2011

I'm not the only one to be glad to see rain then :D. The weather here has been dull and gloomy with the odd nice sunny day (or half day) for the past few months. We've had the odd few minutes of light drizzle but no where near enough for my garden. So the rain yesterday and today is quite welcome.

Just keeping everything crossed that it stays dry over the bank holiday weekend. I'm working Sandwell show, which is setting up a marquee in the middle of a field, running a stand there and packing it up on Monday. Its no fun in the rain - did that once. Nearly got my car stuck in the field as well. Hell nearly lost my shoe in the mud lol.

Ohhh that was a good flash of lightening. I love to watch a good storm :D

Enjoy the rain Barbara and Michaela. Hope those of you who have seen way too much have a lovely warm and sunny few weeks.

Barbara your garden is looking lovely. Enjoy your cake.

26 Aug, 2011

You're garden is looking lovely Barbara and what a wonderful backdrop those trees make. It's a shame you've had to wait so long for a good downpour. We had a long wait for it but in the past couple of weeks we've had more than enough. Still at least it means no watering to do!! :O)))

26 Aug, 2011

Shirley it is lovely having trees but they do have their downside, they block the light so everything tends to lean. lol. even me lol. :o)

Samjp - enjoy your weekend, hope the show is a big success.
We didn't get a storm just very heavy rain. Very wet now yay!!! I enjoyed the cake put some lovely custard on it and it went down a treat, oh had two pieces lol he loves his food.

Thank you Lily2 no watering indeed, it rained for 12 hours and we got some more overnight. Garden was so in need of it, one of the rhoddies on the edge of the garden was suffering very badly it is a very mature bush and it was looking like it might die completely, parts of it are dead already but I will leave it to its own devices and see if it recovers. Hope so.

Thanks everyone hope you have a good Bank Holiday weekend. Best wishes.

Glad you enjoyed the cake and custard, sounds lovely.

Blasted rain, it wasn't supposed to rain that much today. Oh well we couldn't have timed it much better. Just about got the roof up (including material) on the marque and the poles in for the sides when the downpour started. 10 minutes frantically throwing boxes under cover later and we were very wet lol. Lol the water kept filling the roof lining before we got it fully sercured. Some interesting puddles :P. Then the wind got up lol and there we were hanging on to the marque to keep it grounded lol. All good fun. Only doing the set up today, show is on tomorrow and Monday. Just hope it doesn't rain much more, the site we will be a mud bath again. Still as a few of you have said, wont need to water the garden again for a while lol.

Have a good bank holiday everyone.

A bit like camping holiday then Samjp sounds like you had some fun there. :o0) Enjoy your weekend too.

28 Aug, 2011

Lol just a bit. Not as bad as our first ever camping holiday. Gale force winds, torrential rain and thunderstorms. Most of the tents and caravan awnings blew away that first night and Shell Island up the road from us flooded! I'm still amazed mom didn't get rid of the tent after that :D.

28 Aug, 2011

All part of the fun getting blown away.!!!

29 Aug, 2011
