REST IN PEACE NOW MUM xxxx

Hi all!

I just wanted to firstly say how wonderful my first year was on GoY last year and how much, so many of you touched me with your kind comments and generous offerings.

Some of you may well have noticed my absence over the past 2 months or so and whilst a lot of it has been down to work commitments, a lot of it has also been down to my mum being quite ill. Over the past 2 years or so, she has been through so much having had C-Diff and E-Coli several times, MRSA in her nose, a fall, 11 months ago in her home led to internal bleeding and she had 6 hours to live at one point. Then, her frequent visits in and out of hospital with lack of fluids and food not being monitored at the nursing home – the less said about that place the better, only weakened her more. Each problem just sapped her system a bit more and then just a couple of months ago, she was diagnosed with Chronic Myaloid Leaukemia.

Just over a week and a half ago, she was admitted again, this time with pneumonia, clot on the heart and then whilst in there, MRSA in her throat. She had fought so very hard since a combined stroke/heart attack 8 years ago and was still fighting to the end.

Unfortunately, we lost her at 4.50AM this morning, (17/01/2010). It was peaceful and some comfort is sought in that dad was no doubt waiting for her with a brandy poured and a song in his heart. Now they are one again and as I write this, to explain my absence, tears are falling and my heart is breaking. Her favourite flower was a rose. No particular rose, just a rose.

When Dad passed 4 years ago, I wrote mum a poem as if in his own words. She had it proudly sat on her wall where she could see it and these are the words in that poem:

*JUST BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE ME
JUST BECAUSE YOU CANNOT HEAR ME
JUST BECAUSE YOU CANNOT TOUCH ME
IT DOES NOT MEAN I AM NOT WITH YOU.

I AM THE SONG OF THE MORNING BIRD REMINDING YOU OF OUR WONDERFUL TIME SPENT TOGETHER
I AM THE BRIGHT RAYS OF THE SUN ENVELOPING YOU IN MY WARMTH
I AM IN EVERY ONE OF OUR WONDERFUL CHILDREN CONTINUING TO CARE FOR YOU
I AM THE SOUND OF THE GENTLE BREEZE SOFTLY REMINDING YOU THAT I AM HERE FOR YOU, ALWAYS
I AM IN YOUR HEART BEATING THE SONG OF LIFE, AS YOURS MUST GO ON.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO SPEAK TO ME, FOR I MAY NOT REPLY, BUT I HEAR YOUR VOICE AND YOUR EVERY THOUGHT
DON’T BE AFRAID TO CRY AS EACH TEAR THAT FALLS IS ANOTHER CHERISHED MEMORY OF OUR TIME TOGETHER.

I LIVE ON IN YOUR MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF ME EACH DAY, AS I DO YOU

I AM ALL AROUND YOU AND WILL PROTECT YOU, UNTIL AGAIN WE NEXT MEET*

I love you mum.

Oh, so lovely to see the love & heartache that your poem was drawn from. Memories, what an absolute god send to have in our life. We draw from it for ever till it is our time to go. It gives us tears, warm hugs & know we have loved. May your heart find some consolation in the days, weeks, months & years to come Oddbillie

I'm sorry to hear of your sad loss. It's a very distressing time for you, but you will get strength to go through it. It always comes from somewhere. I hope all the words of sympathy you receive from your friends here will be a comfort to you.

sorry to hear your sad loss your poem reminds me of a letter i sent
just a few weeks before my mum died (years ago now)

Dear Mum,
I love you , and will always treasure every memory of
my younger years with you.
You taught me the right values in life and these have given me
happiness which lasts forever.
When you go to heaven you can look down on your children
and your childrens children
and forever you can proudly say
"I did that"
My achievements are as much yours as they are mine, as I often
say to myself Mum would be proud of me.
Both you and dad were the best parents any child could have.
I only wish that I could have told dad how much I loved him,
perhaps one day you could help me.
Your loving son .

so i guess your mum will be telling your dad all about you
over a brandy

So sorry to hear of your sad loss. My mother died in hospital and was not well looked after while there, this makes it harder to bear but in time the good memories come to the fore. What sustained me was knowing nothing more could hurt her.

I had wondered where you were, OB. So sorry to hear of your mother's death - I believe there are a couple of very proud parents watching, together, over you now and saying, as they sip their brandy 'Did a good job there, didn't we? God bless, will be thinking of you.

That's okay San. Hope you're well. How are things health wise? It's been a long winter for us but clearer now. Unfortunately, some of the plants I saved perished due to my head being elsewhere but the fuschia cutting you sent Ali is in fine fettle! She's so chuffed.

Will be checking out your blogs and pics over the coming days:0))

Sorry to hear about mum-in-law Joanella.

Ironically, a few weeks ago we had already discussed having an archway in the garden with a climbing rose either side in memory of both our mothers as they both loved roses! We also want to do something with carnations for both fathers as they both loved that particular flower.

15 Mar, 2010

that would be a lovely tribute to your mums i think thats wonderful, for your fathers maybe a small bed of carnations or plant them round the climbing roses ..that would be nice if they were all together..:o))
