It's Back!

I’ve been happily reading Sanbaz’s and Lincslass’s blogs regarding lovely sunny days and how they’re happy to be getting on with things at last and even thinking the same myself – particularly after a wander round the garden yesterday to see how things were progressing. So what have we got this morning? ****** snow is back! 3" of the wretched stuff! Yesterday partner was happily getting on with varnishing the wooden balustrade on the balcony which, after nearly four years, was beginning to look dull, and I was casting glances at the burgeoning basil, pepper and chilli seedlings with potting-on in mind – even considering planting out the sturdy-looking broad bean seedlings. Now everything’s ground to a halt again!

Oh well! On with the coffee pot and out with the knitting! What’s on TV?

Thanks guys - but we have no sun here and it's still snowing - 6" deep now! It's a white-out beyond the edge of the village and feels like we're on a pinnacle of rock on the edge of nowhere! I've busied myself making soup from a meaty ham bone and lentils, but it's not nearly as much fun as getting out into the garden! Maybe tomorrow ......?

So sorry you have that horrid stuff back, hope it soon goes.

Sorry to hear about all that snow again, Nariz. I heard on the news here a few days ago that the winds have changed direction this winter & that the winds crossing the Atlantic, instead of heading up towards northern Europe they were heading towards the Med. They said Gibraltar had had the wettest winter since records began there several hundred years ago! No surprise then that you are getting so much snow! My mother-in-law told me last week they were having more snow in the centre of the peninsula as well.

I'd love to join you with that bowl of soup! reminds me of the days when my wife & her mother used to make them when we lived in Cuenca! We also used to make them quite frequently. As for the lentils we can't make them like in Spain as we can't get hold of the ingredients we used to use. But in a couple of days time we will be having lentils here for dinner.

sorry- but snow and knitting is quite nice really!

We were in las alpujarras a couple of weeks ago-and got totally cut off with landslides-worst weather in 40 years-it was very bleak but the log stove was fab and I knit myself a lovely warm hat. We made lots of lovely soupy one pot dishes. It realise it may be better when you know you are only there for a short time! But worrying with the weather-but still as long as you are warm and safe-it will soon clear!

good luck Karin

Oh dear poor you, please dont send any over here, it is certainly cold enough to snow.......

Thanks Balcony Clarice, DD2 and Rkda: The strange thing about soup is that I used to dislike it intensely several years ago and thought making it was a lot of effort to go to, but what a change when I can now get such fantastic ingredients! A couple of drawers in one of our freezers is now bursting with Ham and Lentil, Chicken and Sweetcorn, Potato and Leek, Roast Tomato and - in season - Lettuce and Dill. I've become quite a little personal cottage industry! If I could just come up with some lucrative idea of what to do with all that white stuff outside .............

Oh Nariz I don`t want the snow but some of your soup would be a tonic right now, it`s a bit colder this week but still nice enough to be out, only trouble is I`ve got a lousy cold ( hence the need for soup) so really fed up..........

Sorry to hear about your cold Lincslass! My chicken soup (Jewish penicillin) is fantastic for that - I speak from experience! Now if you only lived just around the corner .......... Get well soon :o)

Seems spring is slow in coming in Europe... and here summer is lingering on.

Spring has sprung at last & we are able to get on with some work on our plants. It seems it's not just in the UK, USA or Europe that the seasons are out of sync but also in S. Africa, Australia & NZ!
