Belated Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all GoYers and their families! We’re back at last from our seasonal family-visiting after travelling on the ferry to spend Christmas with Partner’s family in Cardiff, then returning on the ferry – having one day here to do a mad round of washing and ironing – then driving for 10 hours to the south west of Spain to spend New Year with my daughter and only returning yesterday. It’s been exhausting but wonderful and very different in both places! Grey, cold, damp and drizzly in Britain; sunny, warm and dry in Spain. Huddling round the fire and eating warming turkey curry in Britain; long sunny walks on the beach with daughter and her dog and salad for lunch in Spain. Christmas and Boxing Day in family homes; New Year in a large Chinese restaurant. Quiet and chatty in Britain; noisy and chatty in Spain. A wonderful time was had by all in both places – but it’s so nice to be back in our quiet mountains – except to discover thet in our absence the sheep got into our garden and helped themselves to all our sprouts, some of our leeks and all the parsnip leaves! I’d have been less annoyed if they’d nibbled a few Europii flowers, or pruned down my crocosmia leaves! Oh well!

Hywel! Are you there? Don’t go too far away – I have some magnificent cacti photos to show you that I have yet to download, so keep your eyes peeled.

Hi Nariz - Happy new year. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed Christmas here in Wales, eventhough the weather wasn't very good. But it was better than snow - you might not have been able to get here then :o(
I will look at your cactus photos :o)

Happy New Year Nariz! We are also revelling in the peace and quiet (and washing and ironing, lol) after having ravenous family and active baby here for 3 weeks - phew. Hope you've got some other veg to keep you going?!

Yes, Sheila. The freezers are full of French beans and tomato pulp and there are red onions and potatoes hanging from the rafters in the boilerhouse. We'll survive ........ but I can't guarantee the sheeps' survival if I catch them at it again!!

Nice to hear your Christmas and New year went well. Just had a giggle about the sheep, they obviously know the saying - when the cats away the mice will play, in this case the Sheep.lol.
