Birds behaving badly (and oddly)

I usually put robin food out on the ground for a regular little robin visitor. He is very quick to see off any of the other birds that dare to leave their own tree hanging feeders to steal his grub. Today however the garden is invaded by wood pigeons (i think) and poor robin is sitting on the fence looking very aggrieved.

One of the pigeons, seems like it is trying to get into the sitting room and keeps trying to fly into the patio doors.

Usually we only seem to get a pair of pigeons, but today I have counted about eight. Any idea why they should suddenly invade my patch?

It's possible that the pigeons' usual perching places have been disturbed ... maybe by a tree being felled, or by building work, or by flooding ... so they are looking for a new place to set up home ..

Flying into the patio doors can be reflection they see of the sky or an opening which they think is a way out, have had a full imprint wings outstretched on mine think it is oil off their feathers that make the mark.

They will return for the food Nan, I started out with a pair of collared doves when they lost their homes to our retail park and now have about a dozen that all decided ours was a good road to live in, we have pigeons as well, someone once told me that I'd lose my smaller birds but they still come and seem to live together quite happily, costs a lot in the food though........

we have collared doves and pigeons, and still have lots of different birds (over 20 species) The doves and the pigeons keep the base of the feeders tidy by eating all the fallout.
