An Allotment Has come our way!

At last after several years of waiting I have got access to an allotment. In actual fact it’s not mine but my daughter in law has allowed me to help out on her brand new site for which she has been waiting even longer,
Today was day one and we felt a bit like the settlersi n the colonies in days gone by must have felt Suddenly there is this great untamed wilderness confronting us, Where do we start? After a hasty brain storming session aided by a bit of prior research on the internet the first sod was turned , The rules say that an 18 inch path has to be maintained between plots so the first job was to establish a boundary,This done it is pleasnt to find the soil quite sandy so it should not be too difficult to work when the time comes The chief weed seems to be couch grass which revives memories of my first garden many years ago where couch grass combined with builders rubble and yellow sticky claymade it a nightmare to tame The first few pics weree taken this morning the last tonight after we’d cleared a 6ft srip across the plot of surface grass etc and covered it in old carpet in true Flowerdew fashion!
