Tidying up before March arrives.

Today I had all day to myself,OH off to the last school rugby match until the next season starts..
Fairly mild but overcast…a day to resurrect the garden from the ravages of the winter.Although I’m sure it will have more punishment.
The Zebra grass had shed some of its foliage but too early to cut back
Pruned the roses back to half their sizes.
I added a thick layer of ericaceous compost around the potted Acers.Sill feed them in March.
The pool looked very dark and murky…too cold to enter the water so I used the rack and net to pull out that ghastly algae.Surprised to see how much there was since it was only October when it was last done.

The beautiful dwarf Iris were just showing along the stone wall.

Such an uplifting feeling to see their exquisite markings and colours. Many more to come.

Finished off the morning with a trip to the GC….particularly wanted to buy the red Nerine bulbs..
Last year I was too late…and there they were 4.99 for a single bulb, rather expensive compared with the pink ones.Still they do multiple!

Last week we had some sad news.Richard,I called him Hortico not to mix him up with OH,sadly passed away at the age of 52…it was only in the last few months of last year that we had started to ask him to help out gardenwise occasionally…a very willing, energetic person.Such a great help to us.These people are few and far between to find.He will be missed by many.

You have done a lot of work in a short space of time! šŸ˜†

Even though I only have a balcony to go out on there can be some days of hard work - better said - there used to be because I used to change my display twice a year, like the council gardeners! But last year I threw away the 3 long troughs on the balcony floor so I haven't had to plant them up this year. It was getting too much for my back & I would have to spend at least a week getting things organised but it got too much so now I only have the pots on the railing + 3 small troughs on the balcony railings. They are easier to manage.

Age comes to us all! šŸ˜†

Sorry to hear of your gardener passing, Julia. So very sad, only a year or so younger than me.
You've been very busy, all looks good, ready for Spring.

It's good that you've been able to get some gardening done. At this time of year we need something positive to do.
Your Irises are beautiful and your new Nerine is a lovely colour.

Sad about Richard Hortico, 52 is too young to die.

You have been very busy around the garden. Is it not very wet, working outside? You're not so far away from me, Julia, and I would be up to my knees in mud if I stepped on the borders!
I'm sorry to hear about your friend - such a shock, especially to his family.

Very sad about your gardener Julia. It's no age is it!
It all looks good as usual! I love the purple iris.

sad news about Richard, always a shock when they are quite young.

The garden is taking shape Julia. I have been out doing little bits but not that anyone would notice.

I adore these small iris. I have a Katherine Hodgkin out but the rest are still poking their noses through. About another month I reckon before they are on full show. I think I have about 10/15 different varieties.

Love the Iris Julia, especially the dark red one.
It is a joy to see plants beginning to emerge now.
I am sorry to hear of your gardener, so sad for his family.
