Sun is shinning, gentle breeze, where else would I like to be!
For several weeks now I have been enquiring at the local GC about the Akebia climber..(having seen DD’s beautiful one)….because of that warm spell early on in the year, the nurseries have been behind in their supplies……so took a chance today and to my surprise they had arrived!…..Quite a few people were showing interest too.Only the Chocolate vine was for sale, which suited me and the price was quite reasonable(£13.95) compared with the online prices (£17.99 +p&p)So pleased!
There were many lovely plants but I will have to return later…..all that was on my mind was to plant this beautiful climber…..OH had previously dug a hole (so grateful for that)…..and it’s insitu. Will take a photo later on when it has put on some growth.

Daughter is very fond of these, but I was told they were touch and go hardy. Obviously yours Gerardine is fully hardy if it's that old.

I’ve read they smell of vanilla but this one doesn’t seem to have any certainly doesn’t smell of chocolate.maybe if there were more flowers.?

I can detect the scent, but wouldn’t say its powerful. I planted two against a bit of scraggy hedge last year. They are growing, but no flowers this year. I think they are pretty togh. In a mild winter they keep leaves almost allwinter even this far north. But when defoliated they stillcome back good and strong in spring. Just need a sheltered spot.
