Posies

I saw some very pretty, little posies in a florist at the weekend and thought ‘I could do that and it won’t cost £6.95. I can just pick a few bit of this and that and it’ll only take a few minutes’.
So I did and here they are.

Of course it took me longer than I expected and it wasn’t as easy as I thought. There is a reason why florists charge what they do. (Apologies to all florists for thinking I could do your job). And then I decided to take photos so it took even longer but I am pleased with the results.
I like having big flower arrangements but they take a while and I don’t always have the material to do them. These can be done with short flowers and you only need a few not great bunches. I’ve seen them arranged in teacups so they can be tiny. The best thing is that if they don’t last long you can just go and pick a few more in minutes. Also you don’t denude the plant as you only need one flower or leaf.

I hope you like them too and go and try your own.

... and another very pretty!

My mum showed me how to do this with small flowers in a small sherry schooner. If you have small nodding flowers like snowdrops she used to stand the glass on a mirror. the insides then are relected and you get to see the insides too.

lovely posies. :o)

I think little arrangements often beat the big ones, and you can usually find something nearly all the year round as evergreens can compensate for the fewer flowers. eg a few sprigs of juniper with some winter jasmine? So now you've got the bit between your teeth, don't stop when the summer flowers disappear.

No that's a good idea. Sometimes bare twigs are attractive or in late winter a twig with tiny leaf buds.

I have got them in most rooms but I could fit in a few more! As i walk round the garden now I see more things which would work in little posies. Now I'm looking at grasses too ST. I'll It's a different skill to large arrangements. The ones I saw had lots of colours in together so I tried not to be too tasteful as normally I like things to match.

i just like the movement and shape of the grasses ~ i dont have enough to pick myself so i get them from the paths and fields nearby.

Beautiful ... it is surprising just what you can cut from the garden to make a little Posy ... I sometimes add tiny pieces of Pittosporum for the foliage and Gypsophilla . . . . .

The leaves of vinca minor are good fillers for winter arrangements too - I'd forgotten them.

Yes I have used Vinca before, it's very reliable. I'm seeing everything in a new light now!
