A lovely Surprise

Today in Lincolnshire it has been very dark wet and miserable but I woke up this morning to see that my amaryllis has flowered.

And also this is my Christmas present to myself so I’m now waiting for the birds to use it . I get lots of pigeons which are bit of a pest!

What a lovely surprise,Marjories, and it's a beautiful Amaryillis, similar to the one I had last year, which is still in a cold place, but about to be brought back to life shortly ..hopefully ! I love your self gifted Birdhouse too :o)

It's a lovely flower Marjorie, and nice for it to open on a dreary day :)

A lovely surprise for you and I hope the pigeons don't all congregate on your new bird table!

It's nice & bright & short too. I had a white one bought me for Christmas. It had 3 very short stems, 13 flowers in all. I have bought myself one called Appleblossom. It has shot up just one stem about 18inches tall with 4 buds to open. A bit disappointing as I chose a huge bulb. Was that wise, I wonder. Pity we can't tell in advance when we buy a bulb
what we are going to get. Your bird table is very nice. Lots of pigeons everywhere, & here Jackdaws too. :-))

It's a bright beauty in the dark, wintry days! Looks gorgeous, Marjorie.
Love the bird table too, have to agree, loathe the blasted pigeons too. Always flapping my "wings" to chase them off!

Thanks for sharing your surprise with us as it is a touch of colour and brightness on these very gloomy days.
Your bird table is lovely too and I don't think it will be long before the garden birds find it and make good use of it.

That is indeed a very cheering amaryllis.
We bought a mealworm feeder just before Christmas - bad idea, starlings clear it out in minutes. What can you do? I think it may be redundant except on very harsh winter days to save on the cost of refilling it every 5 minutes!!

Anget, I bought a big bag of mealworms ( expensive) :-(
I wanted to feed the blackbirds mostly, I scatter them around, but in no time starlings, jackdaws, wood pigeons, collared doves & the pesky squirrels take the lot. The blackbirds & robins get an odd one, if they are lucky. Like you they are being kept back for the coldest weather only.
