Hi, thought I would tell you all, I have had a super evening, my husband Roy, came with me to my monthly garden club because we had a Speaker – He was Joe Maiden, who speaks on garden matters on Radio Leeds.

He was very good, informative and funny. He works closely with the R.H.S., at Harlow Carr in Harrogte, he said he did classes on veggie growing.

He has got a source for getting “florist buckets” which come from Holland with stocks of flowers in. They can be re-cycled into potato tubs. One chitted potato per tub, you can get four crops per year. If you use potato variety Swift, they mature in eight weeks into tiny baby new potatos, work your dates right and you could time them for Easter Sunday !

Garlic growing, A garlic bulb has 12 /14 segments, plant into small plant pots, of push lots of segments into a container, you can use tops as chives in cut and come again fashion, or grow them on for later planting into the soil

Idea for parsley, grow in hanging basket by front door so you don’t have to get feet wet when harvesting.

When planting into open ground – a £5 plant needs a £10 hole.

I like the idea of growing herbs in hanging baskets. Maybe I'll try that.
It sounds like you enjoy your garden club.

I like the hanging basket idea for herbs too. In the summer months I have wall baskets next to my kitchen door and have been considering replanting them for the winter months. I have an assortment of small bulbs and winter pansies. I am tempted to try herbs as well. Thank you for the inspiration.

Hi Marge
Thanks for the tips. Just a quick question. Are u saying the cloves all need to be separated, or planted whole?

What are the benefits of spllitting the cloves?

Thanks in advance
