Merry Christmas

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost nipping at your nose……..

Things will be quieter in the garden now, time to think about log-fires, mince pies and the festivities which will shortly commence. Also remember all the chutney you made from this year’s harvest, it will be lovely on Boxing Day, with cold meats, cheese and home-made bread. I so love Christmas. I admit that I am a big kid and now that I have four grandchildren, I get even more excited. When my middle daughter was about five, many, many years ago, she wrote on her Christmas list that she really wanted curly hair! I waited until she was fast asleep on Christmas eve, crept into her bedroom and spent twenty minutes kneeling by her bed, almost in darkness, getting cramp, and as gently as I could, so as not to wake her, wrapping her long and very straight blonde hair in damp rags. I set my alarm for 4.30 am on Christmas morning, and repeated the exercise in reverse, arranging her new and beautiful curls on the pillow whilst she still slept! We were all woken at 6am with squeals of absolute delight from our little girl who now had golden ringlets! Of course Santa got all the credit! It was a relief the next year when she wrote on her list that she wanted a Barbie! Enjoy your Christmas dear friends, do some of the ‘old fashioned’ stuff, sing carols, make mulled wine and mince pies, and tell your children and grandchildren, what your Christmas was like when you were a child. My grandchildren are mesmerized by my tales of tangerines and nuts in bulging long woollen stockings suspended from the mantle over the fireplace! (‘Nanny, what is a mantle’) lol x They know that Santa’s on his way He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh And every mother’s child is gonna spy To see if reindeer really know how to fly So I’m offering this simple phrase To kids from one to ninety-two Although it’s been said many times, many ways Merry Christmas to you I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and I send much love to you all and very best wishes from Maggie Muddyboots and her little helpers xxxxxxx

Maggie what a beautiful blog .

And lovely memories for you.

And I am sure many of us have done something to make a child's wish come true.

Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas.

That is one of the kindest most thoughtful answers to a Christmas wish I've ever seen. I hope she wasn't disappointed when the straight hair returned! What a good thing she didn't wake up too early.

How wonderful :) I'm pleased your daughter liked her curls ... a nice memory for her to look back on.

(I've got very wavy hair, and I've been a lifetime trying to straighten it lol)

Have a lovely Christmas !
