Last Night.

Last night I went out into the garden and placed some food down for the Hedgehogs. We saw three the night before. About 8.30p.m. I switched on the conservatory light and went into the dark kitchen to have a look and see if there were any hogs outside. One Hedgehog came racing down the path and began to eat. Suddenly a shape emerged from the back of the greenhouse and it was the beautiful vixen. She shared some of the food with the hog and then sniffed him and got her nose prickled. It was such a privilege to see this moment in time. She has a lovely light coloured thick coat and she kept on looking into the conservatory, then she left the route she came by.
The swan is sitting on the nest on the island in the river down the road and the geese are also preparing nests there further down. The Peregrine on the mill is sitting on a clutch of eggs. The male was sat on the window ledge two windows away from her, when we went to the park.
It’s a lovely morning, so we shall probably go out for a walk. Take care everyone, Linda x

What a lovely blog, it's just so nice to see everything going into spring mode. Fortunately like you I still get a thrill out of seeing foxes, probably because I don't live in a big town! She might bring her cubs...Do the peregrines nest anywhere near you? How exiting. No hedgehogs round us, apparently the entire population got killed off when pest control people put their stuff down in a garden in our hamlet, a lady hoarder whose house was overrun with rats. They obviously didn't take enough care where they put the poison.

Sorry to hear about the Hedgehogs Resi. Saw a bit more wildlife on our walk locally this morning.

What a great selection of wildlife you have Linda! I know we have badgers and foxes as they leave their little trackways but though I've seen a fox in the garden a few times I've never seen the badger - yet! (though I did run over one a couple of years ago - so upsetting but he ran out at the very last minute and there was no chance of me stopping.
And with badgers around there are no hedgehogs, which is very disappointing. Lovely to have Peregrines nearby! If you get the chance to photograph the young one it would be so exciting!

How lovely it must have been to see the vixen and the hedgehog Linda, its grand to see the swans although one is wise to not get too close, ok in your river as they have their nest on the island, on our river walk the silly swans nest on the bank so one has to veer away at this time of the year, you have described it all so well, thankyou for sharing....

Hi Ck glad you enjoyed the blog. Gerry has put the night camera out again as the weather's better so perhaps we shall get a few more photos.
Hello Seaburngirl. I hope you get your hedgehogs again. We saw two at 8.30pm last night. Mrs. Fox must have gone a different route. There are also Peregrines on the Cathedral at Derby and they have a webcam where you can watch them live on the computer. Just type Peregrines Derby cathedral and you should get there.
Hi Sterra, I haven't got a good enough camera to get a close up of the Peregrines. There are several photographers who visit regularly with their super powered lenses to take the birds pictures on the Mill.
Hi Linsclass, swans can get quite protective when they start breeding. Yes we live on the edge of the countryside so we have a lot of wildlife visiting, but I love it. We only have a small garden though.

It must have been wonderful to see the hedgehog and vixen - There are foxes around here but I haven't seen a hedgehog for a long time.

We usually get three hedgehogs that we see before we retire for the night Hywel. The vixen is in very good condition and her coat is lovely.

We haven't seen a hedgehog in our garden since 1976 when a heath fire devastated the area. Do like to see them and they make short work of the slugs! (Ever heard one crunching away at a slug? I have : not to be recommended).

Yes Eirlys we've heard them eating. They do a good job of keeping away the pests. Shame about the fire on the heath, although I expect in time nature will recover.
