My Berberis..

A few days ago I asked for help as regards my poor Berberis..

In a right old state as you can see, anyway I received advice very quickly, of which I am very grateful. I took on board the advice given and decided to have a closer look at my shrub, armed with very strong gloves and arms covered as its a prickly little devil, that is why its in the middle of one of my beds away from little people.
On closer inspection I was dismayed to find the bad side of the bush did have some branches too far gone to save

I carefully rubbed as much of the lichen away with my gloves and gradually inspected the bad bits, working my way around the bush I was able to cut out the dead bits down to the non affected areas.
I figured in view of the rest of the garden being confused and not really knowing what season it is, my Berberis might forgive me if its the wrong time to give it a haircut, anyway I have to try rather than lose it altogether.
I have therefore followed all advice given, its had a slight prune, been refreshed with mulch and good food, right special treatment its had and also a very strict talking to as well, now I`m waiting and watching…

As you can see its a bit wop-sided at the moment but I am sure now I `ve cut away the bad bits, treated the good, I`ll hopefully save the rest. I can only wait and see but at least I am giving it a chance.. Thankyou Spritz, Drc and Tugbrelli… Just noticed this has gone as a pets blog but too late to change it..

Oh dear Lincslass hope you have managed to save it, it doesn't look too bad, hope it comes back for you, what was the cause of the lichen growing on the branches, any idea.

It'll come back fine, don't worry too much! Lots of people use them as hedges, and they're trimmed hard back every year, and don't seem to come to any harm. Any growth now will be hardened off before winter anyway. ;0)
