Butchart Gardens,Vancouver Island, Canada

Last year we visited the Canadian Rockies and on the journey back to Vancouver we stopped in Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. The original owners created the gardens from the surrounding rocks and the results after 100yrs are stunning, I`m so pleased we went there, it was a lovely way to end a fantastic holiday.

I hope you enjoyed the walk through the gardens.

I have been on this Island twice and both times did not make it to the Gardens..it is something I do intend to do though...I can see Vancouver Island from one of our favorite dog walking beaches here...have got to get there! I have to say it reminds me from what I have read and what I see here...of Bodnant gardens in North Wales...I have been to Bodnant!...

Beautiful photos and blog Labdancer. Buchart Gardens are well worth the visit if you are down that way.
Re-claimed from an exhaused limestone quarry Mrs. Buchart created the gardens in 1904 - 1908. They are truly beautiful. :o)

LOL..Dcr...if I were there and I would very much like to be! I certainly would be checking it out to see what they do in the gardens for the season...Are you going there? Steve/Gardeningfriend is working diligently on a Bodnant tour blog...and will be putting it on shortly. I am looking forward to the pictures ..there are some I have not seen yet I am sure!

Welcome to Goy Sandra– Thanks for posting these photos. I like best the natural feel to the photo with the spooky tree, hostas, gravel paths and mossy boulders. I also like that a fun element has been included with the three bears and the jumping fish fountain.

Hi Sandra, Welcome to GoY. Wonderful pictures. I visited Butchart in 2001. One of the finest gardens I have experienced. I have many photos but they are not digital. One of these days I must get them converted. I remember the words on a plaque in the Gardens -

“The kiss of the Sun for pardon.
The song of the birds for mirth
One is nearer God’s heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on Earth.”

Reads like an anthem for GoY!
