My first visit of the year, on January 17 2009. I had a bad cold and had been off work a couple of days, but the weather was clear, if cold, and I thought the fresh air would do me good. I bought a yearly pass last year and went on I think January 24 but unfortunately my photos didn’t come out very well. This January day was a little too bright for photos, a lot of heavy shadows and contrast. A little cloud cover is always better for photography. Also, not a lot in bloom today, some hellebores, snowdrops, Viburnum bodnantense, but a lot of emerging shoots and interesting shapes.
