A view from the kitchen window............. or not!

This the view from my kitchen window, …………………………….

I can usually see the garden, my pond etc, but not now because of this…..

I think its a bit o.t.t.
And while I’m taking the photo I’m being stalked as usual, but this time a little extreme by Golly my black cat

She’s on the roof again!.

With a hose pipe ban my hanging baskets are a real pain to keep well watered, so I have added something extra to each basket.

A plastic bottle that drips water slowly for several hours.

I’m still being stalked

and shes been joined by TC my old cat, (sat center of photo at back)

They are my gardening companions.

I like the idea of the plastic bottle, for baskets, how do you get it to drip- do you use a cork?

No Pinkhippo I just take the lid off and push the bottle into the soil, its so simple and effective, the soil forms the plug, but the water slowly but surely glugs away. Sometimes it flows to quick, and I simply lift the bottle out and do it again until it leeks slowly. I think its more efficient than a wateringcan as, the problem with wateringcans I find is the water just runs off, and you have to water over and over to give them a good watering. I use the bottles in my window boxes too.

Fantastic garden, beautiful cats and so clever to use the upside down bottle. It never seemed to work for me but I will try again. We went up to Crianlarich north of Stirling for the day. We were almost home when the rain we had seen falling miles away finally caught up with us. It came down in torrents. We had to sit in the car for 10 minutes until it abated enough to get out of the car and make a run for it. No need for hoses tonight. I was reading somewhere that it is better for the plants to be watered in the morning before the sun is on them than last thing at night. Any comments on that?

Having a south / west facing garden I was having to water the baskets when the sun was shining up to 3 times a day. - an automated irrigation system is on top of the Christmas list!!

Thanks for your kind comments - my garden is my peaceful escape, but sometimes my business has to take priority - luckily thats usually in the winter, it would be bad planning for it to be the summer lol, but work does get in the way too much - oh how I look forward to retiring one day (my staff think I have already). Maybe then I'll grow some veg.

Such a lovely garden and two bonny cats,I use a plastic bottle as well but I cut the top off mine so it is more like a funnel and keep it topped up.
