August in Lincolnshire

Once again while driving around the lovely Lincolnshire countryside, I stopped to take some pretty pictures.
In Appleby, I spotted a beautiful chocolate box cottage!
There was a charming little front garden area. Unfortunately, I couldn’t see the back garden area, but I bet it was so pretty.
I also passed through Scotter a little later. I’ve seen this house over the years, but, cannot see the back garden here either.
This house has several windows, another theme I like to capture. Doors, windows and gates.
Also, a bit later on, I came across a field of sunflowers in Winteringham, which is a village next to the Humber.
The field is just behind an old church.
The green gate was captured in Snitterby.

Thank you Wildrose, it’s always a lovely drive, in any season.

I absolutely love that first one, the other two are impressive but do not have the same appeal as the cottage. Lovely photo's Kate..

All good, but to me the gates are intriguing what lay beyond .

I have never seen a field of sunflowers - how gorgeous!

Hello Kate your photos have brought back many happy memories of living in that area of Lincolnshire. We lived originally in Winteringham where my two boys went to the village school. We still live in Lincolnshire but in the North East.
I have put a water colour painting of the thatched cottage at Appleby which I have painted recently, hope you like it

Thanks Lincslass, I do agree..I love the thatched cottage, it’s picture book!
Yes Brian, I too wonder what’s behind those green gates at Top House...next time I may take a peek!
Sunnydais, I hadn’t seen any sunflower fields here before, only in Italy on holiday. So, this was a lovely surprise!
Thank you Marjorie, I have to say, Winteringham is so pretty. Such a lovely village. Sounds like you haven’t moved too far. Lincolnshire is a very picturesque county. I’ll be more than pleased to look at your painting, I’ll go have a look. Appleby is another chocolate box village. x

I want to go back and visit the UK again. I have many long lost friends There I want to track down again. We worked together at a Summer Camp for homeless & orphaned children upstate New York in Stony Point. We bonded very closely and they stayed at my house over the breaks and we took New York City 'by storm'. Then we drove up to Boston and had a blast. Then they invited me to the UK and stay with them. I remember the British Countryside, the tea gardens, castles, Liverpool. Stradford on the Avon.

Do you ever come my way Kate, we're where the four counties meet in Stamford, "Stay Awhile Amidst its Ancient Charms", turn left at the bottom of our road, five mins along and we're in Rutland, rolling hills and beautiful scenery, take a trip along a different road out of town its Northant's, another one and we're in Camb's, go past our hospital on another route, one hill which is really only a slope and its flat all the way to the coast...Best of both worlds, would never want to move from here.

Hi Bathgate, sounds like you have some really lovely memories. What a fantastic thing you all did working to help children in need! You must have a very big heart.

Hi Lincslass, sadly, I don’t drive as far down...I do travel around Gainsborough and surrounding villages, plus out towards Epworth, up along the old Roman Road, the A15 and the villages off here. I do get to areas just over the Humber bridge from the East Yorkshire side too. It’s a lovely county, I would like to be able to get further down with work, but, it’s out of my area. It sounds idyllic where you are..I’m going to google it now x

Oh Kate...your photos have gone missing! :(

Hi Kate, I can't see them either, but I'm sure Iwouldgive them a ''like'' if I could, Derek.

Thank you Kate: We had a wonderful time working at the Summer Camp upstate. In working with the children and simply giving them a chance to be 'children', many of them opened up and blossomed into amazing people. Can you reupload your photos for this blog. I really loved that thatched cottage. We don't see those here in NY.

How lovely! At last I can see the lovely photos Kate. The one with the sea green gate is very like the farmhouse I stayed at when I went down a few years ago. It was for sale at the time. It was in Upton...could it be?

The 1st pic looks like a Gingerbread House my grandma would always make around Christmas.

Love your comment! I agree, it really does look like a gingerbread house! Bet your grandma’s Christmas treat was well tasty!

Hi Kate, well you've been travelling round my neck of the woods. They're a lovely couple who live in the thatched cottage. They rescue hedgehogs and also Guinea pigs and you're right, the garden at the back is spectacular, with lots of topiary and is beautifully manicured. If you passed the ice cream man with his bicycle selling ices in the summer, this is where he lives...

Hi Janey, thank you for giving me some more info, it is such a lovely cottage, in a chocolate box village!
Yes, I travel around Lincolnshire with work, most days. I passed through Appleby this afternoon, still looks pretty in the drizzle.
I’ll remember to catch the ice cream man next summer! ;)
