Just getting started

I have decided to spend some of my extra time, of which I have very little, on improving my flowerbeds. They are the victims of neglect and the weeds have all but taken over. I want to start in the backyard because we spend more time back there. I’ve got some things growing in pots but I am definitely interested in growing some beautiful flowers next summer. I know enough about gardening to know that this fall its important for me to get my beds ready for the spring planting so I will hopefully have some pictures of my cleared out beds before Thanksgiving.

Hi Judi - welcome from me too - get weeding, it's good for the garden and your health!

Hi Judi, welcome. This morning I have been out in my garden doing exactly that, weeding, tidying and preparing one of my flower borders for the winter. I planted a few narcissi at the same time, where they can be seen from the rooms at the back of the house. One of the previous owners had planted a rather rampant geranium there which tends to spread everywhere and smother other slower growing plants. I have transplanted some of it to a site in the garden where it will find life a bit more challenging and am trying to eradicate it from everywhere else in the garden. The older clumps take a lot of digging to remove, so I feel I have had my work-out for today :-D
If the weather permits I hope to be attacking another flower bed in a similar way tomorrow. I shall be thinking of you and your flower beds. Love to see the transformation in progress.
