Renewing the spirit with the Border !

With the weather perfect here at the moment and the assistance of my 20 year old son who decided (a) to give back what you receive or (b) get me off his back – I’m that happy and satisfied at the moment that doesn’t matter which.
I have a small/med garden with 2 main borders which were just stuffed with plants & shrubs – the soil was clay but after 7 years & a bit of drainage is improving. I opted to grow plants that like heavy to wet clay & my Hostas/geraniums/fab big white lilies that look a bit more jungley than what I call Easter lilies & the day lilies are/were so lovely ! Problem is off course its so hard to make decisions about what has to go & what is staying. Over the course of living here 7 years Ive moved some things too much because I get these ideas that that would look much better somewhere else I have lost a few things but all in all not too much. Anyhow son Tadhg just was brilliant he easily dug and moved and spliced as I pointed and gave instructions – and that was just what I needed in order to get me going, I had a great day today I have one border almost sorted plenty of things were reduced it does make sad to have to bin some – family & friends will only take so much but I am also happy to have got rid of some like most of the Astilbe/goats beard its been around 15 + years. I’ll have to learn a bit more technology to show progress.
Now that cleaning is underway I can actually see what is there and rejuvenate them, a bit like what a little bit of help & a the day in the garden has done for me!

Bet you're glad to have all the hard work done...I'm exactly the same, and am always moving plants about. Pity I didnt live near you, wouldn't have minded taking some of the astilbe off you hands.
