its all in the mind...

While away for a few days last week we visited the Manjushri kadampa monastery in Ulverston Cumbria , it was completely free of charge and what a lovely place to visit..the old building was built as a hospital and changed hands many times over the years, each organisation adding there own characteristics hence the building being a mish match of styles it was at one stage a miners rest home and stands in its own wooded grounds and has a path leading staight to their own stretch of morecambe bay.
This is the front of the building..

and round to the back

to the living quarters of the Monks who seemed to be mostly women..they each tend certain areas of the gardens and lots of quiet seating areas

what lovely areas they are..

on to the temple, situated at the back of the main building..

oops lets rewind that one ….coo- ee.. yoo-hoo ..Mr gardener,

this greenhouse runs at the side of the temple and is my main interest right now …."would you care to go in he said ", yes please…

all planted last year and looking very exotic.

inside the temple..

all the woodwork and mouldings ,decoration etc was all carved and made in house by the monks..

i had a chat with the young monk on the left she told me she had been there since september, and the glass bowls (below) signify the fact that no matter how rich or poor or no matter how much or little you have you can always offer someone water..i said she must have a peaceful and stress free life there..she said "you always have your mind "…..

going towards the woods we came upon this starcase..didnt go up it though lol..

at the end of a walk through the woods through the gate to Morecambe bay

all in all a delightful day out at no cost..hope its not been too boring for you..

wow Joan what a sheer delight to have read and gone through this with you just love the setting and how different uses have in time combined and still has its authencity from the old to present day new. We have forgotten how it used to be like way back nowadays its all about commerce and big bucks and how fast weall can make it ( well some of us I believe still have some morals left even today).

May I ask why female Buddist monks as regards to males in most partsof eastern asia? or was there a mixture of males and females?

Love the green houses :-)

I'm sure that you and your companions all had a very enjoable and interesting day out.

What a lovely place to visit, so serene & peaceful....It looks a lovely old building, quite stunning to look at, lots of History behind it i should imagine.
It all looked interesting....Yes, that is strange, that all the Monks were women
there must have been a good reason behind it...they all looked as though they
worked hard, to keep those gardens looking interesting. It was nice seeing
your pics. Joanella of the Monastry inside & out....seems like you had a
enjoyable day out!! Thanks, for sharing it with us...: >)))
