I just wanted to say what a great site this is and how friendly and helpful everyone is. It makes gardening (or trying to garden) so much easier.

My aim is to one day be able to answer someone else’s question – now that would be really something!

Do any of the new gardeners ever feel that everything they plant doesnt look right in its space. I really struggle with design and am always moving plants around – no wonder the poor things don’t always do well!

Hi jangue, Welcome to GOY. I for one am forever moving plants round, sometimes we just plant them in the wrong place, the hardest part of design with plants is gett'n the right balance, Always use different leaf colour/shape in your borders and dont worry too much all plants are beautifull :) there's a great ideas "menu" on GOY, go have a look, bottom of page, Black BOX click on ideas and you will be inspired..

Hi Jangue and welcome from me too :) Like Daisy, I'm always moving plants around ...I'm surprised they're not dizzy! Moving things around and trying different things is a great way to learn about gardening...enjoy it, have fun, and learn from any mistakes...that's my motto :)

Thanks for all your reassurances - perhaps I'm not too different after all!,

Hi Janque.....Welcome to GoY. My garden design always looks pitiful. I have absolutely no eye for design at all. LOL
Now, I've kind of given up and plonk things in wherever they fit. Some day I might actually get it looking nice but it will be quite by accident.

I just cant stop buying plants - but know I have to curb it or get rid of more lawn to house them all!

22 May, 2009

LOL.....I just started digging up a section of the lawn this morning. You might as well give in Janque.....gardening is an addiction!! :oD

I am really tempted to get rid of the lawn completely but dont want to end up with a large, flat area, plus the fact it would cost a fortune to buy enough plants and shrubs to cover it all.
My dream would be a cottage-type garden with little paths to meander through.....

Meant to say Gilli, you are up and out early! I am always up early but still in my pj's having my second cup of tea and contemplating whether to try and put up a couple of brackets for my hanging baskets - but it means using a drill and I'm a bit scared!

23 May, 2009

My dream too Janque. Wouldn't it be nice?
I'm not up and about early.....I was just up late. Your morning is my evening. LOL
Using a drill isn't hard.......just make sure it's straight so the screws go in straight......go ahead and give it a try!! :o)

Hi Janque, I'm new here (less than a week) and I agree with everything you've said. Already I'm addicted to this forum and everyone has been lovely and welcoming to a newbie! Like you, I move things around a lot - it's usually not till they're bigger that I can see the mistake and up it comes! BTW - we did get rid of the lawn!

LOL Keithsmum......getting rid of the lawn wouldn't be such a bad thing.....no more mowing. By the way, Welcome to GoY. :o)

Thanks for the welcome Gilli. The garden's not very big and after removing all the grass I found we used the space much better. No more moss to deal with either!

I keep pinching more and more of the grass, feel a bit bad for the kiddies but then they dont go in it much (the eldest 2) and when they do they get warned of touching my plants and there will be trouble
lil girl is always out , with me digging at the grass
