No flowers but lots of new growth, Jacque. You keep putting ideas into my head. Now I'm going to have to get on my hands and knees to peer under my bushes - if I can't get up again, it's your fault :)

Jacque It looks good shape you just have to be patient one out of the middle next year.with luck

Gee If you want them to root put a handfull of lime free compst on the ground bend the branch down and place a couple of bricks on top this retains moisture and keeps the branch in close contact with the ground .If it gets very dry water the bricks. They will take minimum two years to root.Just thought you might like to know.( Hope you can manage the Bricks)

I now have a confession to make! Having just wandered round my garden, I realised that I don't have any Rhododendrons - I was confusing them with azaleas, which I do have. I suspect the principle is the same anyway so, when the ground is a bit dryer, I will continue the search. Thanks, Bis, for the info - yes, I can manage bricks. I have just relaid all my brick lawn edging which is why I am having trouble straightening up :)

I,m sure Eileen has seen this ... when we were in Ireland on holiday a few years ago we watched some people amongst the Rhododendrons in the hills , they were coming out with bundles of sticks with elastic bands round them , we asked what they were doing , they were taking cuttings about 12 " long putting them in bundles of about 10 to send abroad , apparently they could make a lot of money from it and it wasn,t illegal , I wonder how fresh they were when they arrived at there destination ......

Clever you Jacque, wonderful stuff. I think Bjs idea of layering is great. I think I'll have a wander round my garden tomorrow to see what lower branches I can brick down - so easy, if you're patient that is!

Give me a chance Bis, I've been at work all day and only just seen this, and as I posted my question four days ago I almost gave up hope of getting a reply from Jacque.
Rhododendron Ponticum is considered an invasive species in the wild, so if you are going to plant it in your garden, you might want to keep an eye on it over the coming years :0)

26 May, 2009

Thanx Spruce il do that for Sure :) Its hard 2 believe its Invasive as it seems 2 be taking 4 ever to grow :/
