Some views and wild flowers

The other day, I went for a walk up the little road, that passes the back of my garden, to see what wild flowers were there.
Unfortunately it was rather disappointing, but there are some nice views as you go along …

That’s a view looking north towards the mountains in the national park …

I went as far as the village.
Here’s part of it, and the surrounding countryside, from the top of the hill behind the car park …

Panning round …

A seat for weary travellers (i.e. me lol)

Panning round …

These colourful berries were on a Rowan tree
(Sorbus aucuparia) …

As I said, wild flowers have been disappoinging this year, but I did see a few.
Some Rose Bay Willowherb was still in flower,
(Epilobium angustifolium)
but most had gone to seed …

However, there seemed to be a lot of the Great Hairy Willowherb along the way
(Epilobium hirustum) …

Here are the seed heads of Ragwort – Senecio jacobaea …
(never really noticed them before)

I saw some little Devil’s Bit Scabious along the lane
(Succisa pratensis) …

And also some Knapweed
(Centaurea nigra) …

There were still some pieces of Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) about in damp places …

And here are some late Foxgloves
(Digitalis purpurea) …

There was also plenty of Hemp Agrimony
(Eupatorium cannabinum) …

In a few places there was also some Hedge Woundwort
(Stachys sylvatica) …

This pretty umbellifer had a small insect feeding on it :o)

I caught the bus back home because my arthritis was being a nuisance, and here’s one last view after coming off the bus, before walking up the road to the house …

I was glad to get back lol :D

Another lovely blog Hywel. You certainly live in a lovely part of the country with those views right on your doorstep..I hope that you appreciate them, but mostly if you see that sort of thing every day you donĀ“t notice them after a while and take them for granted.

I can understand you making your little sitting place so that you can see these beautiful views,Hywel. Really enjoyed going on that little walk with you. Thanks for sharing this. Its obvious that you love living here and it must be a joy to wake up to these views every day, rain or no rain!

Great blog thanks for sharing. One of the pleasures of a country walk is the wild flowers.

Thank you all :o) It's nice to know you all like the views.

As you say Rogi, they are just part of the background for me, and I often don't notice them when I'm getting on with everyday life ... but sometimes I stop and have a look lol.

Thanks Surrylad :o)

Rose you are right ... the hills are often shrouded in mist, but they're just as beautiful then, as on a sunny day ...

Grandmage I'm pleased there were enough wild flowers for you. There's usually more than that but it is late in the season I suppose.
You couldn't have sat on that bench that day ... it was soaking wet lol :o) but it is nice to sit there when it's dry.

Thank you Denise. I couldn't go on a walk without noticing them ...

Lovely views, Hywel, big, big skies for one thing... Luckily, although I'm in London, I live on the third floor, with very large windows, so I get big sky too... and green fields. But not a patch on what you see on your walks, beautiful.

18 Sep, 2012

Thanks. You do see big skies when you're on top of one of the hills.

How did I miss this? I love your wildflower blogs, Hywel. The ragwort seedheads are rather pretty and I really like the little umbellifer - wonder which one it is? A copper bracelet is supposed to be good for arthritis, but I believe you can take copper in tablet form too - hope you're not suffering too much.

19 Sep, 2012

Thank you :o)
I wear a copper bracelet sometimes, and I take glucosamide tablets and painkillers. Sometimes it's not so bad, and other times it is ... I just take it as it comes lol

At the risk of being completely boring, copper may help with rheumatoid arthritis, but only if you're short of copper in the first place. Most of us aren't because we've got copper water supply pipes, but its possible.
I belong to Arthritis UK and they produced a report in the form of a booklet a couple of years ago which listed various 'alternative' treatments like glucosamine, and whether they were effective for osteo arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or fibromyalgia. Makes interesting reading. It's a free publication.

My mother used to get those magazines. There was a lot of information in them.

23 Sep, 2012

I'm playing catch up too Hywel ... I do admire the wild flowers you have photos of ... so many more than we seem to see in this part of the South ... thanks for sharing ... :o)
