HIBISCUS

LATE LAST SUMMER I BOUGHT A HIBISCUS FROM MY LOCAL PLANT SHOP. I WAS ADVISED TO KEEP IT INDOORS THIS WINTER…. EVER SINCE IT HAS HAD A HOME ON MY LANDING….. AT FIRST I FOUND IT HAD LOTS OF GREEN CATERPILLERS ON IT… WHICH HAD EATEN THE LEAVES.. I TOOK AS MANY OFF AS I COULD FIND AND PUT THEM OUTSIDE………
THE LEAVES BEGAN TO GROW AGAIN AND ONE LITTLE BUD STARTED TO GROW……
IT HAS NOW COME INTO FLOWER AND IS LOVELY……

HERE IS THE BUD STARTING TO GROW.

JUST BEGINNING TO OPEN….

HERE IT IS IN FULL FLOWER….. I HOPE IT WILL HAVE SOME MORE FLOWERS SOON…. IN THE SUMMER IT WILL BE PLANTED OUT IN THE GARDEN….

Holly - did it have a plant label with a latin name? If it's Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, which is what it looks like from your photos, it isn't hardy. Do please google it and take a look, I'd hate you to lose it after all the TLC you've given it.

What a lovely colour Holly - agree with Spritz / Bjs though - best kept in a big pot and lifted into a greenhouse for winter. Would be a shame to loose such a lovely coloured plant.

Lovely looking plant you have there, Holly! :-) My mum came to visit me once in Spain & as it was just after my birthday she bought me a lovely Hibiscus just like yours. I think I have a few photos of it on our kitchen balcony somewhere.

Just like Spriz said, don't plant it in your garden, it's a tender perennial & won't survive the frosts.

Thanks Thecottageg
when i bought it Balcony i thought it could go outside like my other Hibiscus.... but it can have a place on my landing in the winter.....
