Interesting blog I hope you get some good nice crosses from your efforts, don't forget to post pictues next year :-)
I've been having my first go at hybridising too the past couple of years but with daylilies i:-), much easier than dahlias though with the flowers only lasting a day and pollen only being viable till around 11 in the morning you don't have to bother covering the head, longer to flowering though 2-3 years , I've had my first flowers this year from BHHS seed and it's amazing how different flowers can be even from the same cross some looking nothing like the parents!!! I'm having to look further back to grandparents or further to see where some attributes come from, it's great fun, can dahlias show characteristics from further back too?

I like your blog Jane. I also grow and love dahlias:

I wish you luck with hybridising them.

You have an amazing garden.
