There’s nothing nicer that to listen to ’Gardener’s Question Time’ while pottering in the garden, something you can’t do when watching Gardeners World on TV. I often take a portable around with me. Like most I have lots of sets as well as an expensive a Hi-Fi. In 2015 ‘they’ will render all our sets useless in favour of what I consider the inferior sound of digital. What do you think?

A ridiculous idea .... and just what will happen to the mountain of sets that are then 'extinct' ..... that's a horrific waste.

Sad yes.... but I love the totally clear sounds of the digital radio, I did not have the patience with the old type radio, where getting a fair reception outside was near impossible....I used to give up listening at all. I have a portable digital radio with self charging batteries within the radio itself... makes listening very pleasant....:)))

They won't be wasted Louise, they're reconditioning them and sending them to Africa where they can enjoy the sound we will be losing.
Michaella if I could receive the quality that you obviously do then it wouldn't be quite so bad. The new TV in the kitchen sounds like it's coming out of a tin box, it penetrates through walls, like rodents scratching. I have to wear ear-phones to listen to Classic FM in the lounge. My new TV cost about £200, maybe I should have bought a more expensive one. Someone told me that the problem is that the new TV's are too slim to accommodate the speakers.

I'm pleased you get good quality digital Michaela but here it is variable-- bubbling at times and going off altogether! and a house I go to in Scotland is unable to recieve it at all, the clearest I ever get ( I've mentioned it before Heron ) is internet radio, it has the disadvantage that its set up for a particular place ( couldn't take it from one house to another for example) but all the bbc is there and hundreds of others all over the world in perfect clarity and some stations including my favorite music station " flower power radio" !! :0)
but I agree Heron digital radio--- and tv-- are not the answer and shouldn't be discontinued

We get quite good reception with digital, but now and again it goes off for a few seconds at a time. It's very annoying. It's a good job I hardly ever watch the trash they put on it.
I preffer the radio - as you say you can be doing other things while you listen to it. You can't do anything when you're stuck staring at the box :o((
I could get rid of it. I'd be richer and I'd have a free corner in my living room.

I read today Heron that they may back track on the radio change over at least till it works?

you know I read that--- if people are still listening to FM in 2015 then it won't be removed ? worth looking into

Interesting Pamg, can you remember where you read it?

That's what they done to us with TV last year...all digital now but if you don't get cable I think you can still put 'rabbit ears' antennae up on your roof to receive some channels.

If the "FM frequency will be available for use even after digital switchover" then how is it a switchover? I have a feeling it's a con. They'll probably reduce the FM signal.
